Improving ties with Ethiopia
has no benefit for Somalia but disaster Nasser’s article posted on Hiiraan Website could only be expected from an Ethiopian expansionist, and not a sincere and true decent ethnic Somali, who has a rightful mind and has historical awareness of the victimization of the ethnic Somalis living under Ethiopian colonization or the Ethiopia’s constant and continuous aggression against the infant Somali nation. If Ethiopia is the oldest independent in Africa, it does not show up in terms of progress and human developments. But the most Ethiopians live under the constant of dictatorship, hunger, lack of freedom and their Christian brothers’ handouts. Meanwhile, the regional power of Ethiopia that many naïve people advertise or entertain, do not translate into the realities. Ethiopia may have a mass marauding and hungry conscripts, but the living standard of the majority Ethiopians and the infectious diseases that are prevalent in Ethiopia does not make it a regional power. The former Soviet union had a mass military arsenals and waves of conscripts but it could not sustain its falling living standards and disintegration of its batched numerous ethnic nationalities. Whether Menez Senawi is young or in tune with the BBC or western media and its products is immaterial. He is the by product of an Ethiopian-colonial minded individual, whose political survival depends the subjugation of ethnic Somalis under his rule and constant war footing aggression against Somalia and other neighbouring states. Moreover, Ethiopia good relations with the United States or Ethiopia’s partnership with the U.S.A war against terror or Muslim belief whatever you call it, does not give a licenses for Ethiopia to intervene our internal affairs and the future directions of our socio-economic and political agendas. If many an expected things have happened in the world recently, it does not mean that we can easily give up our pride and dignity by letting Ethiopia to become our domino. If Europeans have had a quarter century of peace without war is because they are related with one another, in terms of race and religion, and they have individual freedom of expressions, territorial independents and mutual respects. But we and Ethiopians are nothing in common, except been in a same continent and neighbours, but Ethiopia behaves an occupier and aggressor. Its endless greedy policies are what have been manifesting the continuous enmity and endless hostilities between us. On the other, the durable peace between Israel and Egypt only became feasible when Israel realized that without giving up the land of Egypt it would never had a peace with Egypt. It is possible that when Ethiopia tune down its aggression against our nation and give a full sovereignty the occupied Somalia’s Western territory, then we would have a good neighbourly and amicable relationships, until this happens, there is no love lost between Ethiopia and Somalia, but constant hostilities and ever increasing enmity. If Ethiopia is 70 million populations, it does not mean that, it has a license to exploit on our God given resources and being a parasite on us. Kuwait has oil but China does not and there is not law that says that Kuwait must lease its oil wells to China. Additionally, 70% of Ethiopians are Muslims, and do not have access to the seat of power, equality of education and economic benefits in Ethiopia. They are treating as second class citizens and dehumanizing conditions. If any rightful mind Somalis is entertaining the question of a close relationship with Ethiopia, they have to see first the inhospitable conditions that Ethiopian Muslims live under. Making peace with Ethiopia and alienating our brotherly Egypt is a disaster for us. Egypt has been sharing our suffering and burdens, in terms of political and material solidarities. Successive Ethiopian regimes had been dreaming more territorial acquisitions and economic exploitations against Somalia, while Egypt has no territorial ambitions against us. If the politicians of Hargeysa and Bosaaso have a good relationship with Ethiopia, it is because they are not a true nationalist but think their only seat of power, which they can only hold on if they acquiesces the Ethiopian policies. That itself does not mean the citizens they rule have any enthusiasm to see an Ethiopian enemy matching in their territory. Nations fall and rise. If Somalia is weak politically today or lacks a decent leaderships who knows tomorrow? Saying that Ethiopian soldiers are coming to help the reconstitution of our army and police forces are itself an insult and defeatism. Who knows the Ethiopian intervention in the Somali territories may hasten the freedom of the occupied nationalities in Ethiopia such as Somalis and Oromo. All in all, there is nothing we can benefit from Ethiopia except the human killer of Qat and other social ills.
